I’m still in my first semester, which is mostly background research into various contextual approaches such as Marxism and Barthes and Foucault.
So, the mammoth task of writing 25,000-30,000 words by September has yet to begin. But it’s something that I’m kind of (in a strange way) looking forward to.
My dissertation will be focused on multilingual British cinema, examing how subtitles and translation are used to represent British culture, power structure and issues of identity.
So, if you’re interested in any of the above issues, or maybe have any film suggestions that you think might fit the categories, feel free to have a chat! There’s only two of us doing a research masters, and my coursemate is studying medival French literature and I’m missing having long conversations about obscure and weird films!
This will probably be my last personal post (as well as being my first), but I just thought I’d let (all 20)* of you know what’s going on, especially when it’s comes to a depleted output once I start my dissertation properly.
Thanks for listening, and thanks again for liking and commenting on all my posts! *I can’t believe I have 20 people who actually want to read what I write, it’s insane!
